    Road Tour `08

    Road Tour 2008

Thank you to Barbara and Jerry Hilbert for here and being the tail of our group for the entire trip.

Thursday we visited the Gayla Driving Center owned by Gail and Dana Banfield. It is a horse drawn carriage and wagon training center and carriage restoration shop just outside of Georgetown, Kentucky before heading for Paducah. We were shown some very historic buggies from all over the world and some very interesting demonstrations.

On Friday we drove from Paducah to Branson, Missouri

A special thanks to Clare Moyer and Jim Galinsky for their help planning the events in Branson.

Our host and hostess for the evening were Tom and Alisa Green at their home for an outdoor bar-b-que with a menu of bar-b-qued chicken, beef and pulled pork, baked beans, plus others sides, soft drinks, water, and desserts.

    Gary,

first, was great putting a face to a name - great finally meeting you! second, thanks for the synopsis on the Road Tour - agree, that Bill and Joanne need to be thanked heartily for all their efforts in getting us all to National!

BE SAFE on the drive home - I have around a 14-hour drive, that I plan on splitting into 2 days - should be home sometime tomorrow afternoon

All the tour leaders did a great job, and Bill and JoAnne worked hard to coordinate it all and shepherd all of us on the final legs. Lots of fun on the tours -- as usual.

It was a great convention also. Lots of hard work by the St. Louis and Kansas City Chapters and other volunteers.

Everyone have a safe journey home.

On our tour we stop by the Corvette Museum. I haven't been since the National Convention in 2000. It was neat to see my brick there that my wife gave me for an anniversary present last year. My brick is in section 42-D, why would I remember that?? We also took a plant tour and the million dollar Lemans Blue ZL1 was being built. It was on the trim line. The owner was to pick it up on Monday. The ONLY one built that color. I can say I saw the car being built!

Rick's beautiful Z06 is a piece of corvette history that not many of us get to see in person let alone see one drive 1500 hundred miles on the road tour. The car is mostly original and lost most of its points for condition, its a shame that the car will not be in future duntov displays for all to see rather than trailer queens that we bring to these meets including mine!We know he would have driven the Lady to san jose.

                  Rick,
I'd love to see some pics of your car. It sounds like a real gem... and it's driven!! Do you have any posted on the web? Please point me in the right direction. Your tiny avatar doesn't do it justice.

                  Cheers

                        Rick,
WOW. That is one cool car. Thanks for sharing the web site. Some great pics of the process from disassembly. I like the story about the car going to Switzerland and Canada before you got it. It adds a lot to the story.

Glad to see you are enjoying it. Hope the return drive was anothe 18mpg, uneventful journey.

                        Cheers
